Weld County oil spills for May 30
Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual "spills" do occur among the 17,000-plus wells in the county.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported May 24 a historical well spill near Weld 57 and 44, about 10 miles southeast of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for benzene, naphthalene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, 1 -methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene. This location lies within a Pronghorn Winter Concentration Area high-priority habitat.
» CRESTONE PEAK RESOURCES OPERATING LLC reported May 23 a historical well spill near Weld 45 and 42, about 8 miles east of Gilcrest. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historical impacts were found during decommissioning at the wellhead.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported May 23 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 31 and 14 in Fort Lupton. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during reclamation at the production facility. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported May 19 a historical well spill near Weld 51 and 42, about 8 miles south of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. One soil sample exceeded COGCC standards for naphthalene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene.
» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported May 18 a historical well spill near Weld 92 and 65, about 8 miles west of Briggsdale. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Lab analysis indicated a historical release at the decommissioned wellhead. Two soil samples exceeded COGCC standards for total petroleum hydrocarbons, 1-methylnaphthalene and 2-methylnaphthalene.
» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported May 5 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 23 and 6, about 4 miles southwest of Fort Lupton. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found below the former separator, above-ground storage tank and dump line during decommissioning. Excavation and assessment are ongoing.
